How to play Cosmic Encounter

So I had to design a VoiceThread project for Computers in the Classroom, and I decided to explain how to play Cosmic Encounter. So if you're interested in learning, watch this http://voicethread.com/share/1007455/ and I can explain things later.

Gaming on 3/6/10

It was Friday night, and we knew there would only be a small group of 3 tonight, so we decided to break out Power Grid. Two of us had played under the introductory rules which sees the game come to a close after 7 cities, while the full game ends after 17 cities. We started by discussing what map to play, and since I have US, Germany, Korea, China, Italy, and France, there were some options. We decided to play Korea after I didn't want to play the US again. The interesting thing in Korea is that the resource market is divided into the North and the South, and players must choose which market they will purchase from each turn.

I ended up winning the game by powering 20 cities, Josh powered 17, and Greg powered 16. Had the game gone another round or 2, Greg would have probably won, but alas, it was not his night.

After the game we wanted to play something else, so we went to the C lounge where Callie was on duty and played a game of Cosmic Encounter , with the new expansion - Cosmic Incursion

Greg played Macron, I played Healer, Josh was Virus, and Callie was Mite.
I turned down the option to play Anti-matter which in hindsight was a bad life choice, but such is life.
Greg, Callie and I ended up defeating the Virus for a triple win, which only really occurred since it was getting close to 11, and Callie needed to go at that point.

Overall, it was an excellent night of gaming, with many more to come.

On a side note, there will be no more official game nights for the next two weekends due to spring break, though I am planning on returning to campus on 3/20, so hopefully something will happen then.

Introduction

This is the first post in a running blog about the Westmont Boardgamers Club and the experiences we share. We're currently a small group, but are actively growing. This last weekend we played Cosmic Encounter and Battlestar Galactica, both published by Fantasy Flight Games. For more info about any games I mention, check out boardgamegeek.com
